When
looking for a place to stay in the Virgin Islands, you have your choice of
everything from the affordable beach cottage to luxury villas. The islands
offer bed and breakfasts, family hotels and any place else you can imagine
to stay. The following are some questions to keep in mind as you narrow
your search for accommodations:
- Location: Do you want to
be on the beach, on a hilltop or in town?
- Activities: Are you
looking for tennis, scuba diving, sailing or just beach chairs and
hammocks?
- Family: Are you traveling
with your children - does the hotel offer a kids club?
- Honeymoon: If you’re
looking for privacy, consider a private villa.
- Cost:
Are there any
special rates or packages? Are you traveling during high or low
season? High season runs roughly from mid-December until May and
low season from the end of May to mid-December. Hotels charge their
highest prices during the high season.
- Nightlife: Do you want on
site restaurants and bars or do you want to explore the island?
Fortunately,
whatever answers you come up with to your questions, the Virgin Islands
will offer choices. You might opt to live it up and stay at a luxury
resort. Or maybe you prefer the personalized service of a small hotel. The
island offers a series of quaint inns, and if privacy – as well as
luxury – is your primary concern, perhaps you’ll want to consider
renting a private villa.
The
islands cater to tourists, meaning finding a nice place to stay is never a
problem. You’ll be able to choose from quaint bed and breakfasts to the
grandest of luxury resorts. Upscale resorts and hotels offer a pampered
getaway, whether it be for a night or a month.
Other
accommodations to consider include restored, historic homes, which are
easily found around the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted on St.
Croix. The homes, great houses and inns bring back a by gone time for
guests to enjoy.
Not
ready for a small, private inn or a quaint bed and breakfast? Many
American hotel chains, including Best Western and Marriott, put their best
foot forward on the islands. Best Western’s Emerald Beach Resort on
Lindbergh Bay on St. Thomas offers all oceanfront rooms, directly on the
beach.
Many
hotels will offer you more activities than you could possibly try in a
typical vacation. If you plan to sty in a hotel, look for one that offers
complimentary water sports, including snorkeling, windsurfing and
kayaking.
Rates
can range from $49 a night at a small but comfortable hotel on St.
John’s to several thousands of dollars a week for a luxury villa or
private condominium. That makes the Virgin Islands the perfect destination
for any budget.
