Tourism in the US Virgin Islands

Approximately 80 percent of the revenues generated in the Virgin Islands comes from tourism.  This is done thru the payment of docking fees by cruise ships and thru the purchase of goods and services by millions of tourists that flock to the shorelines annually.

The number of overnight visitors has fluctuate throughout the years from peaks at about 500,000 to sometimes over 700,000 annually.  However, cruise ship passengers reached a record 1.6 million in 1998.  With the over 5,000 hotel rooms which generate jobs for a large percentage of the work force, makes the US Virgin Islands well equipped to accommodate this influx of tourist.

Hotels and other tourism service providers value their customers, and special deals during peak and off peak travel season, are always available to vacationers.  So the next time you feel the bug to go on that long awaited vacation, remember the US Virgin Islands is just a few skips away.
